Habakkuk is a research project initiated by V2_ in 2013. It researches and re-enacts the improbable but true historical top secret project ‘Habakkuk’. The initial inspiration for this programme of research was a top secret experiment conducted during World War II, involving the proposed use of a special form of ice to build an aircraft carrier for the Allies.

Aim of the Budapest meeting:
The programme is being developed by V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) and OS Kantine (Budapest). The aim of the meeting is to gather experts together from a range of backgrounds including art, design, science, and history to discuss the following questions:

• How is innovation accelerated in extreme scenarios (war, natural disaster, etc)?
• What happens when science and technology interact with creativity and design thinking in such a context?
• What methods are most effective to break “innovation stagnation”, and how can constraints on creativity stimulate the best outcome?
• What examples from history or our current time depict this kind of creative problem-solving under pressure?

The results of the expert meeting will become part of a larger programme of research and form part of a series of expert meetings around the globe taking place in 2013. The outputs from the meetings (notes, interviews, etc) will be released as part of a publication and series of documentary shorts.

The aim of this workshop was to discover the intersections of Bioprinting. We set out to discuss the basic principles of 3D printing, Bio Art and how this two genre is mixed together in order to print human tissues. To do this we invited 3d printing specialists, bio artists, biologists, designers and a curator / media theorist. During the WS we discussed number of issues – ethical, technological etc. – but also the benefits and directions of 3D / bioprinting. The prezi you can see here is the spine of this conversation.

Az 8 at a table kezdeményezés egy UI/UX (felhasználói interakció / felhasználói élmény) kerekasztal létrehozását tűzte ki céljául. A beszélgetések során 8, ezen szakterületek valamelyikével vagy mindegyikével foglalkozó személy beszél meg egy közösen felvetett témát. Témáink jellemzően a szakma hazai helyzetével foglalkoznak, a résztvevők által készített, publikált projektek/termékek tervezési problémáit, megoldásait, munkamódszereit, tapasztalatait foglalják magukba. A beszélgetések rendszerint 1.5 óra hosszúságúak és valamilyen -egyelőre még nem ismert- formátumban mindenki által elérhetőek lesznek.

8 at a table is an initiative to create a roundtable about UI & UX. During this roundtables people from this professions will discuss problems, development and working strategies, will share b plans. The topics are either given by the organizers or chosen by the attendees. Roundtables usually take about one and a half hour and will be shared with everyone in a soon to be chosen format.

A few of us became so fascinated about this initiative that we decided to spread the world and make it known in Hungary as well. Last time on 19th of May Embassy of Finland joined Restaurant Day for the first time.
It iss great, let’s make this a bigger event with many more pop up restaurants around Budapest and Hungary!
